Snake fungal disease, also known as ophidiomycosis, is caused by the fungus Ophidiomyces ophiodiicola. Symptoms of snake fungal disease can vary and often overlap with those of other conditions. Common signs include lesions on the skin, such as inflammation, swelling, or blisters. These lesions may develop into dead tissue, which would cause the skin to thicken and form yellow to brown crusts on scales. This could result in ulcerations, which are open sores. Affected snakes may also show loss of appetite and weight loss. In severe cases, the infection could spread deeper, affecting internal organs, muscles, and bones.
